UGBEWANKO ODAFE MICHAEL
Member, Forbes Human Resources Council · Speaker. Management ConsultantAuthor · Institutional Transformation Strategist
Ugbewanko Odafe Michael, known simply as MOU, is a management consultant, a sought-after speaker, and an institutional transformation strategist. For over a decade, his work has been driven by one conviction: that organisations are not built on capital or products alone, but on the strength of their people, the integrity of their processes, and the soundness of their structure. As a Member of the Forbes Human Resources Council named in 2025 among the 10 Most Influential HR Leaders in Africa by Entrepreneur Magazine, he has come to be recognised as a distinctive authority on how high-performing institutions are truly built.
As Lead Consultant of Dmidaf Global Consult, MOU has advised hundreds of chief executives across more than a thousand businesses. He partners with founders, boards, and leadership teams to build companies that can scale far beyond the people who started them. His work reaches across the full breadth of the modern economy, spanning real estate, financial services, fintech, oil and gas, telecommunications, government, and the development sector. It is this range that gives him something rare: a clear, cross-sector understanding of why some enterprises endure, and why others quietly fall apart.
He is the author of “HR Is Dead,” a deliberately provocative book that tears down the tired, administrative view of human resources and rebuilds it as the strategic engine of business performance. The idea at its heart, that managing people and performance is not a support function but the very act of creating value runs through everything he does.
MOU is also a compelling speaker, regularly invited to stand before chief executives, leadership teams, and rooms full of business owners to speak on leadership, transformation, and the building of institutions made to last.
He is the convener of two distinct and influential platforms. The first is the Operational Excellence Conclave, which hosts across ten editions every year. It is a powerful gathering of chief executives, founders, management teams, business executives, and political leaders, built around the three forces that decide an institution’s fate: process, structure, and people. The second is The Presidential Table, an altogether more exclusive engagement, where he works closely with a deliberately small cohort of just fifteen chief executives each year, guiding them through an intensive journey designed to grow their revenue by fifty percent.
His foundation is, by design, both analytical and deeply human. He holds a master’s degree in human resource management from the University of South Wales in the United Kingdom, built upon a degree in Philosophy from the University of Ibadan. This pairing lets him ask not only how organizations work, but why the people inside them behave as they do. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Management Consultants and a Chartered Management Consultant (FIMC, CMC), a Fellow of Corporate Governance (FCGP), a Financial Modeling and Valuation Analyst (FMVA), and a member of both the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (ACIPD, UK) and the Chartered Institute of Bankers.
